About

I’m Ali Amrani, a creative developer and artist in Belgium. I make installations, live visuals and websites you can play with: things that react when people move, touch or look.

that’s me

What I make

  • Interactive installationsPhysical spaces that answer to people, with depth cameras, projection and game engines. Like Ascend, a climbing wall that turns into a game board.
  • Projection mapping & live visualsShows on facades, screens and objects, played live with Resolume and MadMapper.
  • Playful webSmall interactive pieces in the browser, from shaders and simulations to synthesised sound. The desk is full of them.
  • SoftwareThe logic behind it all: back ends, apps and the glue between cameras, screens and machines.
  • Virtual productionBlending physical and virtual sets on green screens and LED walls, with Unreal Engine powering the sets.

How I work

I like to prototype early: build something rough, put people in front of it and let what they do shape the next version. On Ascend, rounds of testing with climbers changed the holds, the difficulty and even how bright the effects were. I’m not afraid of unusual ways to get there, whether that is a cardboard heart for a projection or two depth cameras stitched into one.
